Busy time of the year !

We have been working on all kinds of photos. There was several events real close to each other. We are working on photos of the AAU Beach Wrestling Championships, the 2011 Virginia Beach Boardwalk Weekend, The 2011 SK8ER Bash and next weekend is the 2011 Blue Moon Wicked 10K Run and Monster Mile. So Happy Halloween if we don't get back to you all sooner !

ECSC !

Well, we made it through Hurricane Irene and to our amazement, the East Coast Surfing Championships were held on Sunday morning after the storm went by. We did not get as many photos as we usually do, but we had a good time. We will be posting photos over the next week.

No ECSC !

Well, Hurricane Irene has put a stop to the ECSC this weekend, maybe next year the weather will be better ! The next event will be The NAS Oceana Air Show on September 23rd to the 25th. The rain bands from Hurricane Irene is now approaching Virginia Beach and the winds will be getting stronger through tomorrow. We will post some pictures if we are able.

What's going on ?

Wow, what a day it was. There is a fire in the Great Dismal Swamp, a 5.9 earthquake today that shook pretty good and a Hurricane suppose to be here on Saturday. We are going to try to take pictures this weekend of the East Coast Surfing Championships, but that may not happen if Hurricane Irene continues on it's projected path. Only time will tell !

I wanted to let everyone know about Adorama. I have purchased several electronics from Adorama, they have Great prices and I always get the items I have ordered in a timely manner. Check them out, you will not be disappointed !

When we take pictures, the Canon cameras we use take SDHC Memory cards. Everyone knows the cards come in different sizes, from 2GB up to 32GB, but many people do not realize that the cards write pictures at different speeds.
When you look at a SDHC card there is a number in a circle located on the front of the card which lets you know what class the card writes at. The classes run from 2 to 10. 2 being the slowest class and 10 being the Fastest. We take many photos during an event and find that we need class 10 cards to keep up with the speed at which we take photos. The Card which performed the best for us during the Military Challenge event was a Transcend 16GB Class 10 card. The camera did not freeze up or slow down using the card, and the transcend cards are being sold at a great price. Check them out and always check the Class of the card when buying your next memory card.

Photography Tips

When we started taking pictures, we just picked up the camera and made a ton of mistakes. We had a heck of a time trying to figure out the shutter speed to use, the F stop, the ISO Settings and on and on. We have now taken over 90,000 photos and are starting to figure things out, the most important thing is to just take pictures and have fun at it. It was much harder in the 'older' days when you had film cameras and had to pay for all the mistakes that you make. Today with the digital cameras it is much cheaper to experiment with the settings, mess up and start over. The messed up photos are pretty interesting sometimes ! Someone has asked us if we have ever taken photos of a UFO. Well I have to say, No ! Maybe one day we will find something interesting to take a picture of in the sky, but not as of right now. Do you have any photos of UFO's that you have taken? Let us know and share it with us.

We attended the 2011 Military Challenge last Saturday and have been working on photos from that event since then. We have almost 3,000 photos on our website and more to come ! The next event will be the Norfolk Duct Tape Regatta on the 20th of August.

We are getting ready to add a new camera to our inventory as a back-up to the cameras we currently have. We have had good results with the Canon Cameras that we have been using. I think we will update with the T3i and then after that we are looking at the Canon 7D. Coming up next Saturday, July 30, 2011, we will be at the 2nd Annual Military Challenge in Virginia Beach. It is always fun to watch the people racing through Mud Pits !

This summer is flying by ! Still have some great events left this summer: Military Challenge, East Coast Surfing Championships and the Neptune Festival !

Texas Roadhouse Dancers at the Mount Trashmore July 4th Celebration. After a rain delay the remainder of the celebration is set for September 16, 2011.

We are busy working on photos ! We have several events coming up in the next few months: 2nd Annual Military Challenge, 2011 East Coast Surfing Championships and the Neptune Festival. While working on photos I watch all kinds of shows. One of my favorites is Unsolved Mysteries with the late Robert Stack. I just pruchased all the episodes I could find, that is a great show, you should check them out if you are interested in mysteries.

Summer !

One disapointment was the fireworks was cancelled because of a strong thunderstorm, but it was still a nice afternoone before the storm arrived.

Memory Card

When going to a photo shoot make sure that you always have enough memory cards. When we go to a festival or event we usually take around 1,000 to 3,000 photos. I have several Transcend cards and they work really good. I usually carry between 5 to 9 cards with me, so I don't miss the action.
In an earlier post we mentioned the Kodak Playsport 1080p HD Video Camera. I have two of them now and had really good results. Check out our website at http://www.forgotthecamera.com and click on the Featured Galleries to see vidoes taken with this camera.

Working on Photos !

So how is your summer going? We are working on photos of the North American Sand Soccer Championships that were held in Virginia Beach, Virginia. We will be posting hundreds of more photos in the gallery on our website www.forgotthecamera.com We also have been working on our photo storage and 'found' over 9,000 photos of the 2010 Steel Pier Classic Surfing event that we never posted, so we are going to go back and start posting more of those photos. Back from vacation !

I will begin uploading photos to our site again now that I have rested up for a week ! We will be working on the Pungo Strawberry Festival pictures and , if it does not rain too much this weekend, we will be posting photos of the North American Sand Soccer Championships by early next week. We have been testing out a small video camera, the Kodak Play Sport. A 1080p HD palm sized video camera. It has been doing a pretty good job for such a small camera. Air Show season is here ! This is a photo of the British Red Devils at the Air Power Over Hampton Roads Air show in Hampton, Virginia. We will be taking photos of the Oceana Air Show this September, always a great air show !

Little Island Park

We stopped at Little Island Park in Southern Virginia Beach, Virginia to see what was happening, and found that not much to see yesterday. I did find a Pelican trying to catch some fish. What a goofy bird to watch while it fishes.

2011 Virginia International Tattoo

We attended the 15th Annual Virginia International Tattoo which was held at the Norfolk Scope in Norfolk, Virginia. This is a great event and should not be missed. This year the Tattoo had over 850 Artists from several countries. 11th Annual American Indian Pow Wow

We spent Saturday at the American Indian Pow Wow which was held at Mount Trashmore Park in Virginia Beach, Virginia.  If you ever get a chance to go to a Pow Wow, you should go.  The Pow Wow is a great way to learn about the Native American culture. 10th Annual American Indian Pow Wow: A Celebration of Life for all People.

We will be attending the "11th Annual American Indian Pow Wow: A Celebration of Life for all People" this Saturday, April 23, 2011, at Mount Trashmore Park in Virginia Beach.  We attended this Pow Wow last year and had a great time. We took over 1,000 photos of this event last year and they can all be found on our website http://www.forgotthecamera.com/ visit the site and check them out. The pictures above were from the 10th Annual American Indian Pow Wow which was also held in Mount Trashmore Park. We used 2 cameras during this event, both Canon cameras.

NHSCA Wrestling !

Our newest gallery at http://www.forgotthecamera.com/ is the 2011 National High School Coaches Association Wrestling Championships which were held at the Virginia Beach Convention Center. We spent the day on Sunday, April 3, 2011, at the event.  This is always a great wrestling event and if you are a wrestling fan, you should attend this one.
